Job Details
Jenny Riddell-Carpenter MP is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join her constituency team, based in Felixstowe, Suffolk. The role is available on a full-time basis, but we are open to different working patterns including part-time, job-share etc.
The successful candidate will operate in a busy environment and must possess the ability to manage a large workload independently.
You will join Jenny's casework team, supporting constituents across Suffolk Coastal with a wide range of issues, ensuring they're able to access the support they need.
Duties will include:
• Deal with daily enquiries from members of the public by phone, in person, email or post under the supervision of the Senior Caseworker
• Gather relevant information from constituents in order to progress or close the case
• Draft enquiries to government agencies on behalf of constituents
• Ensure cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner in accordance with GDPR and Data Protection guidelines
• Assist with the work of other colleagues as required and communicate appropriately with internal and external contacts
• Attending surgeries (occasional evening and weekend support will be required), other relevant meetings, and taking notes.
• Liaising with various agencies and organisations to resolve constituents' problems
• Assisting Jenny to develop responses to key local issues
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Essential skills for the successful candidate include:
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Workload and project management skills.
• Good IT skills
• Ability to deal with constituents and community interest groups in a helpful and sympathetic manner
• An enthusiasm for helping people and a willingness to pitch in where needed
Further desirable skills include:
• Experience of advising in areas such as housing, welfare benefits or immigration issues or community advocacy work would be beneficial, but not essential
• A good working knowledge of local issues in Suffolk / Suffolk Coastal
