Job Details
Join my dynamic team as a Parliamentary Assistant based in Westminster. The role will assist my team and I with research, communications, policy casework and administrative tasks. The successful applicant will work closely with my Senior Parliamentary Assistant. An understanding of the issues facing coastal communities is essential, ideally also in Kent. An interest/expertise in legal or justice related policy areas would be an asset.

Key responsibilities:
• Support the MP’s parliamentary operation, including submitting written and oral questions
• Prepare briefing notes for parliamentary questions, debates, meetings, articles and press releases
• Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation, including impact on the local constituency
• Undertake diary management of parliamentary timetable
• Create social media content
• Monitor the MP’s social media accounts and develop strategies to increase engagement
• Write opinion pieces and press releases
• Monitor media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
• Liaise with local, regional and national media on behalf of the MP
• Undertake project management work to support the delivery of the MP’s objectives for the Constituency, including preparing briefing notes on constituency issues, drafting letters to ministers and external agencies and organising meetings with relevant stakeholders
• Respond to enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups, with a particular focus on responding to policy casework
• Assist in writing external communications, including speeches for the MP, compilation of briefing packs, taking notes of meetings and drafting appropriate submissions
• There will be a requirement for the role holder to at times work outside of normal working hours, including accompanying the MP to meetings
