Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Working For: Linsey Farnsworth MP (Amber Valley)

Location: London

Salary: £21,000 part-time 3 days a week

Length of Contract: Permanent (6 month probation period)

Job Details

Key responsibilities will include:
• Diary Management.
• Undertaking research and compiling briefings to support the MP in their role.
• Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
• Attending and participating in meetings as appropriate and ensure all actions are followed up.
• Writing speeches, parliamentary questions both oral and written.
• Organising events and visits within parliament.
• Responding to routine correspondence and enquiries.
• Responding to policy queries when required.
• Horizon scanning for opportunities for the MP to speak in parliament.
• Liaising with media lead and researcher on debates and events in parliament.
• Providing administrative support to the MP to all aspects of her private members bill, any future 10-minute rule bill, petitions, APPGs and her work on the justice select committee.
• Developing and maintaining current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including how they impact on the constituency.
• Ensuring all work complies with data protection legislation.
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work including to the constituency.

• Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal skills, with keen attention to detail
• Strong research and analytical skills
• A team player with a positive attitude, self-motivating, organised, and adaptable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including MS Word and Excel
• Experience of researching briefings and managing a diary
• Awareness and understanding of national and local issues
• The ability to work in a highly pressurised environment
• Share the aims, values, and objectives of the Labour Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
