Job Details

Pamela Nash, MP for Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke, is looking for a Senior Parliamentary Assistant who is passionate about the difference MPs can make to the lives of their constituents, with strong initiative and keen to make their mark, make the role their own, and be part of a busy team working on pressing national and local issues.

This role would suit a highly organised individual who can work independently, show initiative, and work well as part of a wider team. Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks are key.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive research and administrative support to the MP, enabling her to effectively perform her duties as PPS to the Secretary of State for Defence.

•Speechwriting 
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
• Analyse, evaluate, and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
• Work with colleagues within the constituency effectively.
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
• Assist with diary management.
• Responding to routine correspondence and enquiries
• Lead on the drafting of Policy Casework Responses
• Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions. 
• Assist in writing external communications. 
• Maintain positive ongoing relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, suppliers and Westminster where required.
• To advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House.

Personal specification, knowledge, and experience

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A good knowledge of UK Parliament and its procedures
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise a demanding workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Proven experience of previous work in a related area.
• There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally.
• Ability to interact professionally with colleagues, constituents, and stakeholder
• The ideal candidate will possess a strong awareness and understanding of the Scottish political landscape
