Job Title: Part-Time Caseworker

Working For: Iqbal Mohamed MP (Dewsbury and Batley)

Location: Constituency Office in Batley

Salary: £12,698 (pro-rata £25396 FTE)

Length of Contract: Initial 3-month fixed term contract, with potential for extension or to move to a permanent contract by mutual agreement.

Job Details

Iqbal Mohamed, MP for Dewsbury & Batley, is looking for a motivated team player to join his constituency team, working 20hrs/week from the constituency office.

Key Responsibilities:
• Handle a large volume of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from constituents by post, phone, email, social media or in person.
• Research & prepare responses to constituents & to appropriate bodies withing the required deadlines & maintain ongoing communication as required.
• Attend & assist the MP on local visits, surgeries & constituent engagement events when required.
• Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially, & accurately in accordance with the MP.
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
• Log cases; monitor progress & ensure all identified actions are taken.
• Retain records & information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.
• Occasional work outside of the normal working hours & travel for work.
• Support the constituency & Westminster team.

Person Specification:

Essential
• Professional & responsible with excellent people skills.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Capacity to respond empathetically, patiently & politely to changing demands from constituents.
• Ability to assess complex & often incomplete information & be able to identify the key issues on behalf of a constituent.
• Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage conflicting work priorities & deadlines, & pay keen attention to detail.
• Being a self-starter with a demonstrable record of taking initiative to manage a large & varied caseload under pressure to a high standard.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Office & social media platforms.
• Ability to work flexibly & creatively as part of a small fast-paced team.
• Alignment with the ethos of the Independent Alliance.

Desirable
• Knowledge of local support organisations & sources of advice.
• Experience of public service in a relevant field.
• Previous casework experience including experience of working with vulnerable people.
• Understanding of the role of an MP, Central and Local Government structures, and the voluntary sector.
