Job Details

Samantha Niblett MP is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to support her parliamentary and constituency work, with a particular focus on ensuring the voice of South Derbyshire and her constituents is represented in Parliament. The role will cover research, analysis, communications, parliamentary business, stakeholder engagement and general office support.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Researching parliamentary, national and local issues and assessing their impact on South Derbyshire.
• Keeping up to date with parliamentary business, including legislation, Motions, debates and Hansard, and preparing briefings, speeches, parliamentary questions and other material for the MP.
• Drafting articles, press releases and social media content, and monitoring media and social media for relevant issues and trends.
• Attending meetings, taking notes and progressing actions.
• Supporting diary management, correspondence, enquiries and general administration.
• Building positive relationships with constituents, community groups, organisations and Westminster contacts.
• Working with colleagues across communications and casework to ensure research and information are used effectively.
• Maintaining accurate records and files in accordance with data protection requirements.

Capabilities required:

• Good political judgement and the ability to understand complex issues and their local impact.
• Highly organised, adaptable and able to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
• A self-starter who can use initiative and work independently while contributing effectively to a small team.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally and sensitively with the public.
• Discretion, integrity and the ability to handle confidential information.
• Strong IT and administrative skills.

Desirable experience:

Experience in a political, parliamentary, communications, public affairs or research environment; knowledge of Parliament and its processes; an understanding of South Derbyshire; and experience producing briefings, speeches, press releases or digital content.

There may be a requirement to work outside normal hours and travel occasionally for work.
