Job Details

Rt Hon Maria Eagle MP is looking for a committed and organised Senior Caseworker to join her team on a fixed term basis. The Senior Caseworker will provide advice and support to local people on a range of issues, manage a caseload, organise surgeries and resolve problems for local people through communication with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and other organisations.

The location of the role, including the option of remote working, is open to discussion. Part time working will be considered.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated to help people and be able to demonstrate a commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a large number of standard enquiries, as well as leading on more complex individual cases - by phone, email, or face to face - in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately
  • Organise MP advice surgeries, including identifying and booking residents in for appointments
  • Provide information, advice and support to constituents on a range of financial, health, housing, benefits, immigration, and other issues
  • Keep accurate records using the casework database and maintain confidentiality
  • Identify trends and produce relevant reports on issues faced by residents, working across the team to support policy change and campaigning efforts led by others in the team
  • Work collaboratively across the team on relevant project work to help residents more easily access support and to highlight the impact of casework in supporting residents

Required skills and values:

  • Previous advice/casework experience
  • Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied caseload, and work well under pressure
  • Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances
  • Strong interpersonal skills and naturally comfortable dealing with a broad cross section of people
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of a small team
  • Discretion and professionalism and the ability to deal sensitively with confidential information
  • Methodical approach to record-keeping
  • Good IT skills

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of Caseworker.MP
