Job Title: Senior Parliamentary Assistant

Job Details

Ellie Reeves is seeking a proactive and politically engaged Senior Parliamentary Assistant to support her work in Parliament.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and enthusiastic, with excellent writing skills and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle complex policy queries on behalf of the MP
  • Draft content e.g. newsletters, articles, speeches, social media posts, videos, and website
  • Provide policy advice and ensure the MP is briefed on Parliamentary business
  • Research local, regional, or national issues to support the MP’s work and write briefings accordingly
  • Liaise with stakeholders, interest groups, and external bodies
  • Supervise junior members of staff
  • Attend and support meetings and events, occasionally outside normal working hours
  • Ensure data protection compliance and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Undertake other responsibilities in relation to the MP’s parliamentary duties

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to work collaboratively or independently when required
  • Ability to handle a large and complex workload
  • Knowledge of UK parliamentary procedures
  • Good local/regional/national political knowledge, understanding and judgement
  • Experience of social media is desirable
  • Experience in policy, research, or parliamentary work is desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party
