Job Details
Ayoub Khan MP is seeking to recruit a motivated, responsible Parliamentary Assistant to support his work in Westminster, in service of the constituents of Birmingham Perry Barr.
Key responsibilities:
- Contributing to diary management (under the supervision of the Chief of Staff).
- Assisting in writing external communications, including speeches.
- Preparing and presenting briefing notes for meetings, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.
- Developing knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc and how they impact constituents.
- Working with colleagues in the constituency to identify potential impacts from research.
- Responding to correspondence, including on policy, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face-to-face.
- Undertaking relevant research.
- Efficient data management to ensure compliance with data protection legislation.
- Some work outside of normal working hours and occasional travel, including to the constituency, may be required.
Skills required:
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a large, complex and fast-moving workload.
- A positive attitude towards working as part of a small team, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Strong IT skills and the ability and willingness to quickly get to grips with new systems and novel approaches to delivering an MP’s digital services.
- A professional manner and the ability to speak sensitively to people who may be experiencing challenging personal circumstances.
- [Desirable] Knowledge of current events in the Birmingham Perry Barr constituency.
Knowledge of Parliamentary procedures would be an advantage, but training can be provided. The successful candidate may be required to occasionally work outside of normal working hours.
