Passionate about politics and keen to gain hands-on experience in Westminster? Charlotte Cane MP is looking for a motivated Parliamentary Intern to join her team.

This part-time role (3 days per week), starting asap, offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience of Parliament, public policy, communications and constituency representation.

Working closely with the MP and her team, you will support a wide range of parliamentary and constituency activities while developing valuable skills and insight into public service.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and prepare briefings on policy, parliamentary and constituency issues.
• Support the MP's communications activity, including preparing social media content, newsletters, press materials and correspondence.
• Assist with parliamentary activity, including drafting speeches, Parliamentary Questions, debate briefings and legislative work.
• Support constituent casework and enquiries as required.
• Monitor political, policy, media and social media developments and brief the MP on relevant issues.
• Help organise meetings, events and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Provide administrative support, including diary management, record keeping and data protection compliance.

Person Specification

• A strong interest in politics, Parliament and public service.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong research, analytical and organisational abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, and to work independently and as part of team.
• High levels of discretion, professionalism and attention to detail.
• Confidence engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and members of the public.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

We expect to hold first stage interviews during week starting 14 September (though this may change). Interviews will be conducted over MS Teams.
