Job Details
Liz Jarvis MP is seeking to appoint a part-time Constituency Assistant to fulfil an important role within the existing team.
The position would be for three days per week.
The ideal candidate will be well organised, patient and enjoy working with a wide variety of people on a wide range of tasks covering casework, research and administration. May suit someone with previous experience in a customer or public-facing role.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with MP surgeries, constituency meetings and follow-up actions as required
- Work with others and independently to deliver general administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the constituency office, including note taking, drafting written communications,
- Ensure all records and information are managed confidentially and in compliance with data protection legislation and office policies
- Research policy areas and public services to support casework resolution
- Work with colleagues across Eastleigh to provide a high-quality service to constituents
Essential Skills and Experience
- Able to work individually and as part of a team.
- Sound ability to deal effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people in person, by telephone and in writing (email and letter).
- Strong organisational skills and good attention to detail
- Empathetic approach and strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Discretion and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
Desirable Skills
- Research skills and the ability to quickly understand complex issues
- Understanding of local issues affecting Eastleigh and Hampshire
- Knowledge of parliamentary, government, local authority or public service processes
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats
