Job Details
Helen Hayes MP is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to work in her busy Parliamentary Office.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Diary management covering both commitments in Westminster and the constituency.
- Undertake research and compile briefings to support the MP in their role
- Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues
- Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate and ensuring all actions are followed up
- Assist in writing external communications including press releases, speeches, parliamentary questions etc.
- Drafting responses to policy casework and assisting the casework team with queries about parliamentary business
- Produce social media content including video and graphic design targeted at Helen’s constituents.
- Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
- Supervise interns and work experience students where appropriate
- Organising events in parliament and the constituency.
- Respond to routine correspondence, including policy casework enquiries and correspondence from policy stakeholders.
- Have working knowledge of relevant legislation, parliamentary and legislative processes and a keen interest in politics and policy, including how they impact on the constituency
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Essential Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including MS Word and Excel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience of researching briefings and managing a diary
- A motivated and enthusiastic approach to a busy brief
- Awareness and understanding of national and local issues
- The ability to take initiative and self-motivate to work to deadlines as part of a small team
- The ability to work in a highly pressurised environment
- Experience of a variety of social media communications platforms and content-generation software
- Sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party.
