Job Details

Mary Creagh CBE MP for Coventry East, is recruiting a full-time Administrative Officer to play a key role in her busy parliamentary office in London.

This is a varied role providing administrative, organisational and parliamentary support to Mary and the wider team. The successful candidate will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable working in a fast-paced political environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to Mary and her team
  • Manage diary requests and invitations, ensuring Mary has the information required for meetings
  • Monitor and manage incoming correspondence, emails and calls
  • Draft emails and letters to constituents, stakeholders and organisations
  • Prepare written briefings for meetings and parliamentary business
  • Undertake research on parliamentary, policy and constituency matters
  • Maintain awareness of relevant parliamentary business, events and deadlines
  • Liaise with parliamentary colleagues, Government departments and external organisations
  • Maintain accurate records confidentially, in accordance with data protection legislation and office procedures
  • Undertake other administrative and parliamentary duties as required

Skills Required
Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to produce clear, accurate and professional correspondence
  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing demands in a busy working environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Able to handle confidential information with discretion, care and professionalism
  • Ability to work proactively and take responsibility for tasks
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams
  • Interest in current affairs and UK politics
  • Commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party

Desirable

  • Understanding of Parliament, parliamentary procedure and the work of an MP
  • Previous experience working in Parliament, politics or public affairs
  • Experience of diary and event management

The postholder may occasionally be required to work outside normal working hours and travel for work.
