Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Working For: Tonia Antoniazzi MP (Gower)

Location: London

Salary: Salary: £24,468 – £36,864 (within the IPSA Parliamentary Assistant pay range, dependent on skills and experience)

Length of Contract: Permanent, full time

Job Details

• Research local, regional or national issues to support the MP’s work and write briefings accordingly.
• Assist with complex queries on the MP’s behalf, including drafting letters and speechwriting.
• Keep up to date with parliamentary business, including debates, legislation, motions and Hansard. Ensure the MP is fully briefed about questions and motions likely to be raised in Parliament.
• Understand current and upcoming legislation and its impact on the constituency.
• Maintain accurate records and files in accordance with data protection requirements.
• Diary management for days the MP is in Westminster.
• Arrange, attend and participate in meetings as appropriate.
• Provide general administrative support.
• Assist with casework as required.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours, eg attending events with the MP.
• Assist with effective inbox and correspondence management, prioritising a high volume of enquiries, identifying urgent matters and ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.

Candidate requirements:

• A natural organiser with excellent attention to detail who takes pride in maintaining organised systems and ensuring tasks are delivered efficiently.
• Self-motivated and able work to tight deadlines.
• A collaborative team player with strong problem-solving skills, sound judgement and a proactive approach to work.
• Ability to produce work to a high written standard.
• A strong interest in research and policy analysis, with the ability to identify and communicate key findings effectively.
• Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative and resolve issues before they escalate.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party and have an interest in the priorities of the MP.
• Discretion, integrity and the ability to handle confidential information.
• Experience working in a parliamentary office or public affairs desirable but not essential.
