Job Details

Matthew Patrick is looking for a highly motivated, politically aware and organised individual to join his team. As a Parliamentary Assistant you will play a key role in communicating Matthew’s work to constituents in Wirral West and supporting Matthew’s work in Westminster.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver a proactive communications strategy.
• Produce articles, press releases and engaging social media content, and other communications including newsletters.
• Manage Matthew’s social media channels, website and digital communications.
• Identify opportunities across traditional and digital media, building relationships with local, regional and national journalists.
• Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues.
• Monitor performance of communications channels and provide regular feedback to adapt the strategy.
• Assist with casework and constituency projects.
• Provide general support for Matthew’s role as a PPS.
• Support with diary management.
• Build knowledge of upcoming legislation and parliamentary business.

• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Experience managing social media and digital communications.
• Strong political awareness and sound judgement.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
• A can-do, dedicated and proactive approach.
• Self-motivated, well-organised and able work to tight deadlines.
• Personable and able to communicate with people from all backgrounds.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Understanding of the importance of the work done in the constituency office.
• Excellent time management.
• Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and resolve issues before they escalate.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
