Job Details
This is a fixed-term, full-time maternity cover role supporting the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York, providing parliamentary, political and public affairs advice and research.
Responsibilities
- Provide parliamentary and public affairs research, advice and briefing support.
- Draft speeches, briefing notes, correspondence and preparatory materials.
- Support the Archbishops' parliamentary work, including House of Lords activity.
- Monitor government policy, legislation and parliamentary developments.
- Organise and support meetings, events and engagements in Parliament.
- Undertake research projects supporting the priorities of the Archbishops and the wider work of the Faith and Public Life team.
- Build and maintain relationships with parliamentarians, charities, NGOs, think tanks and faith groups.
- Attend meetings on behalf of the Archbishops or the Faith and Public Life team as required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Excellent IT, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational, diary management and time management skills.
- Strong research skills and the ability to gather information quickly and accurately.
- Knowledge of Parliament, its functions and structures.
- Understanding of the role of the Archbishops and the Church of England in national life.
- Ability to analyse and present complex information clearly.
- Experience of organising events and stakeholder meetings.
- Collaborative working style and sound judgement when handling confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively with people of differing political and theological perspectives.
- Ability to make informed decisions and take responsibility for own work.
- Willingness to work occasional unsocial hours.
Desirable
- Ability to draft briefing papers, bulletins and other communications.
- Awareness of parliamentary processes, political parties, think tanks and lobby groups.
- Understanding of the Church of England's public role and current policy issues.
- Ability to assess the impact of policy and legislation on the Church of England and wider faith communities.
- Ability to work independently and deliver outcomes to tight deadlines.
