Job Details

Key responsibilities

· Speak to constituents by phone, email, social media and in person to understand their problem and decide how we can help.

· Manage your own caseload, making sure every case is recorded properly, followed up promptly and kept moving.

· Work with government departments, Glasgow City Council, the NHS, housing providers, charities and other organisations to help resolve constituents' problems.

· Keep constituents updated so they know what's happening with their case, even when progress is slow.

· Write clear case notes, correspondence and summaries so there's an accurate record of every case.

· Prepare briefings to ensure MP is up to speed before meetings, surgeries or when constituency issues are raised in Parliament.

· Help organise and staff constituency surgeries, following up on any actions afterwards.

· Deal with sensitive and sometimes upsetting situations with empathy, professionalism and good judgement.

· Help out across the office when needed. We're a small team and everyone pitches in.

· Occasionally you'll need to work outside normal office hours or travel as part of the role, although this won't be the norm.

Person Specification:

· Experience working in an MP's office, another casework role or a similar job where you've helped people solve problems.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy workload without dropping the ball.

· A calm, empathetic approach when dealing with people who may be distressed, frustrated or angry.

· The confidence to deal with public bodies and other organisations on behalf of constituents.

· Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365. Experience using casework management software would be helpful but isn't essential.

· An interest in learning about areas like welfare, housing, immigration, pensions and healthcare.

· Good judgement, attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

· Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
