Alex Ballinger MP is seeking to recruit a Senior Communications Officer to join his team on a full-time basis, to support him with his work on behalf of the constituents of Halesowen.

This is an ideal opportunity to support an active & engaged MP, where you will be involved in all areas of Alex’s work, with opportunity to contribute & work collaboratively.

The role includes developing effective communication strategies, video editing, producing content for social media and media outlets, and working on projects and campaigns to support the MP’s work in the constituency.

Duties will include:

• Producing written copy for media outlets and responding to press queries
• Monitoring media coverage and social media channels
• Producing graphical and video content for social media
• Supporting wider communications objectives via mass mailing
• Establishing effective working relationships with local stakeholders
• Undertaking research to ensure MP is accurately informed on key issues affecting relevant interests
• Horizon scanning to identify opportunities to pursue topics of local importance & to progress priority campaigns

Person specification

• Exceptional written & verbal communication skills & the ability to produce high-quality copy.
• An interest in current affairs & policy issues.
• Ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Knowledge of how to use social media, websites & email.
• Experience of using video and graphic editing software.
• Knowledge of how to analyse online metrics to improve future communications
• Understanding of how to produce high quality graphics and video content.
• Experience of researching & presenting information in an easily digestible format
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Ability to use own initiative
• Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task and meet tight deadlines

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
