Rachel Reeves MP is looking to appoint a constituency assistant to join the hard-working, fast-paced and committed constituency office team on a temporary basis.
The successful candidate will be expected to quickly develop sound political knowledge of the constituency and an understanding of how Rachel as the local MP can support and advocate for her constituents.
Applicants should have a strong command of written and spoken English, a good telephone manner and be efficient and well-organised with strong attention to detail and a genuine passion to serve the constituents of Leeds West and Pudsey.
This role would suit a recent graduate or an early-career administrative professional looking to gain experience in a range of duties to support the functions of an MP’s constituency office.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Drafting correspondence to constituents and other stakeholders.
- Assisting with the preparation of briefings and communications to the MP.
- Supporting office administration such as ordering stationery, data processing and actioning invoices.
- Providing executive support to the Constituency Office Manager.
- Handling large numbers of standard queries from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.
- Responding to constituency casework in a timely manner; gathering relevant information and liaising with the team or external organisations to resolve cases; logging all cases in accordance with data protection legislation.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent written communication and organisational skills;
- Experience of building relationships with stakeholders;
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills;
- Capacity to manage a high and complex workload;
- Ability to work effectively in a small team;
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.
- A driving licence would also be advantageous but is not essential to this role.
- There may be a requirement for the post holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
