Jim Dickson MP is looking for an experienced, motivated and organised Senior Caseworker to join his constituency team for a maternity cover.
The Senior Caseworker serves as a first point of contact for constituents providing information, advice and support on a wide range of matters, including housing, benefits, health, education, and immigration and liaising with local councils, government departments and others, to help resolve matters for our constituents.
You will work with the Head of Office, Caseworker and rest of team where needed to ensure that our constituent’s cases are dealt with promptly, professionally, and accurately.
Key responsibilities:
- Handle casework queries from members of the public by phone, email, or face-to-face
- Ensure cases are logged, monitored, progressed, and all identified actions are taken, proactively progressing your cases and keeping constituents informed
- Ensure all cases are dealt with sensitively, confidentially and accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all cases and decisions are properly documented, with all interactions noted, and followed up as appropriate
- Support the delivery of constituency surgeries and events and following up as appropriate
- Line manage one member of staff
Skills and Experience:
• Previous experience of handling casework at a senior level, in an MP’s office, public sector, or equivalent is essential
• An understanding of complex issues, including health, housing, immigration and SEND issues
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills when interacting with people at all levels
• A strong attention to detail with the ability to manage a large and varied caseload
• A can-do and proactive attitude with a demonstrable record of taking initiative
• Experience with Elected Technologies (caseworker.mp) is highly desirable
• An understanding of and sympathy with the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party
• Knowledge of the Dartford constituency and/or wider Kent area, and local issues which may be relevant to constituents would be advantageous.
We are a small collaborative team and can provide flexible working arrangements.
