Job Details
Sir Oliver Dowden MP is seeking a dedicated, proactive and self-motivated individual to join his Westminster Office as a Caseworker. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is hardworking, resourceful and able to take ownership of their workload, particularly a recent graduate looking to begin a career in politics or Parliament.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, exercising sound judgement and using their own initiative to progress casework and identify solutions for constituents.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Corresponding with constituents on casework matters and responding to general constituency enquiries
• Liaising with government agencies, local authorities and third-party organisations
• Responding to routine policy correspondence
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with GDPR
• Providing information, advice and support for constituents on a range of welfare issues
• Communicating with constituents clearly and sensitively on the telephone
• Attending Sir Oliver's constituency surgeries with him and other meetings as appropriate
• General office admin and support as required
• Managing a personal caseload and progressing matters independently, identifying appropriate actions and escalating only where necessary
The successful candidate will have the following:
• Ability to carry out tasks quickly and to a high standard
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a small team
• Strong communication, organisation and IT skills
• Good work ethic with ability to work independently
• A proactive approach, with the confidence and judgement to work independently and use their own initiative to identify solutions and progress work without close supervision
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
• Excellent written skills and attention to detail
• Good knowledge of Sir Oliver's Hertsmere constituency and key local priorities
