Job Details

Alan Mak MP is looking for a hardworking, skilled and motivated Constituency Support Officer to be based in his Constituency Office in Havant, Hampshire. The role is full-time (5 days per week), not a job share and cannot be done remotely or part-time.

Previous experience in politics is not essential, but experience and skills in project management and stakeholder engagement is vital.

The role also requires a flexible attitude and the ability to own & lead projects, manage workload and help/work with other team members. An ideal candidate will be familiar with Alan’s constituency and/or the region, and have knowledge of local issues but this is not a requirement. Previous experience in a similar role is strongly preferred.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:
• Organising community events and local projects.
• Dealing with queries from members of the public.
• Attending meetings and constituency events with or on behalf of the Member.
• Drafting letters and other communications to constituents.
• Assisting with administrative tasks, helping to organise the Member’s diary and local operations, and assisting other team members as required with other tasks as they arise.
• Managing engagement with local stakeholders, community groups and other organisations.

Skills and qualities required:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, plus attention to detail.
• Ability to organise large-scale public events and manage projects.
• Highly organised and capable of working independently as part of a busy team.
• Be politically aware, with an interest in current affairs;
• Sympathetic to the values and aims of the Conservative Party.
• Full, clean driving licence, and access to own vehicle

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis as applications are received, and the appointment may be made before the closing date.

Start date is by mutual agreement but ideally within 1 month of appointment.
