Sam Carling, MP for North West Cambridgeshire, is recruiting a Senior Communications Officer to develop and deliver communications across digital, media and print formats in support of Sam’s constituency and Westminster work. The role would suit someone with experience of political communications, or with a background in journalism or public relations.

The role is being advertised at 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week). It will be ideally be based in the constituency of North West Cambridgeshire, however strong applications to work from London will be considered.

Core responsibilities:

• Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels, and analyse impression data to inform overall strategy.
• Engage professionally, confidentially with care and integrity with members of the public, through social media, emails and face to face.
• Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts.
• Monitor media coverage, liaise with media both proactively and reactively, and prepare press releases as required (on non-party political matters).
• Exercise a high level of autonomy in proactively building relationships with key journalists and seeking media opportunities for Sam.
• Oversee the monitoring and updating of online platforms including the website and social media, and follow up on social media queries and comments.
• Supervise other members of staff including coaching and mentoring.
• Use a range of digital content creation tools to a high standard, developing additional skills where necessary, to provide high-quality digital content on a regular basis.

Occasional work outside of normal hours may be required (as will occasional travel to the constituency, if London-based).

A driving license is highly desirable.
