Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

If you love Walthamstow, have a passion for social justice and enjoy administrative and campaign activities then we have the role for you. Not for the fainthearted or Steerpike, it requires the patience and personal skills to deal with an MP who is trying to be in four places at once, the legwork to make change happen and being unafraid of an inbox that never ends.

This is a fully flexible role for 30 hours a week that would suit anyone with caring commitments, studying plans or who wants a four day week. The successful applicant will work alongside a small team of brilliant and committed people helping the MP with a wide range of issues and providing a first class advice service to the people of Walthamstow.

The role focuses primarily on organisation and adminstration, helping with the many projects and campaigns Stella is working on as well as assisting the other members of Stella’s office. Its a job for someone who knows there's no substitute for picking up the phone, isn't frightened of a database and refuses to use the words strategic or circle back.

Key tasks will include:

  • Overseeing campaign and communication activities primarily in Walthamstow
  • Responding to enquiries by telephone and email, helping residents get answers and following up casework as required
  • Helping create social media content that inspires rather than enrages.
  • Data entry and management to support the MP's constituency communication
  • Managing the MPs diary and resources

The following skills are essential:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with volunteers, community organisations and local networks across the constituency
  • Self-motivated and able to drive forward work independently as well as with others
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills including the ability to write easy to read copy
  • Good IT skills (proficiency in Word, Outlook, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Excel) experience of CRM databases would also be beneficial
  • Good time management, an appreciation of the importance of confidentiality and a polite manner are all all vital
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour and Co-Operative parties.

We encourage applications from people who are traditionally underrepresented in politics, including women, people from minority ethnic communities, LGBT+ individuals and disabled people.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Closing Date: 30 September 2026

Interview/Start Dates

Applications close at 12pm on Wednesday 30th September.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 1st October and Friday 2nd October with the successful applicant to start as soon as possible.
