Job Details

Kevin McKenna MP is looking for a Caseworker to join his excellent Constituency Office team in Sittingbourne and Sheppey for a six month fixed contract. The successful candidate will work as part of the Casework team to provide proactive, thorough and compassionate advice and support to local people on a range of issues.

The Caseworker will be expected to manage a large caseload focused on resolving problems through clear, concise and coherent communication with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and other relevant organisations and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities
· Assist with MP advice surgeries and other meetings and to follow up as appropriate
· Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
· Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.
· Ongoing communication may be required
· Draft the highest quality responses to constituents and their enquiries
· Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with all relevant data protection legislation
· Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially, and accurately in accordance with the wishes and direction of the MP
· Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
· Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
· There will be a requirement to occasionally work outside of normal working hours, including attending events with the MP as required.

Essential criteria
• Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied workload and work well under pressure;
• Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances;
• Excellent interpersonal and the highest quality written communication skills;
• Good IT skills including MS Office;
• Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard;
• Motivation to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a small team;
• Commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party;
• Previous casework experience desirable but not essential.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
