Salary: £28,114 – £45,141 Role is Part time 22.5 hrs per week

Job Details

Andy MacNae is seeking a Policy Assistant to work in his office in London, on a three day a week basis.

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate a good understanding of the below responsibilities, enjoys working with the public and works well within a team, supported by Andy's Senior Parliamentary Assistant.

The role would involve working to a high professional standard across a diverse variety of policy topics.

Key responsibilities:

• Formulate draft policy responses for constituents in line with the MP’s views and style guide
• Work collaboratively with the constituency team to support the MP’s work and strategic goals
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, lobbyists and pressure groups
• Deal with complex queries in conjunction with the constituency team/MP
• Research and write high-quality, clear advice on a wide range of policy issues. This will include analysing, evaluating and interpreting data
• Keep abreast of Parliamentary Labour Party and other briefings
• Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation, including impact on the local constituency
• There will be a requirement for the role holder to occasionally work outside of normal working hours, including assisting with events with the MP as required
• Other tasks as may be required by the MP
• Occasional travel to The Constituency may be required

• Ability to write concisely and clearly, in plain English
• Ability to use style guides and feedback to develop use of the MP’s voice
• Ability to organise across shifting timescales and priorities
• Use of Office software

Desirable skills and experience
• Knowledge and experience of Parliamentary systems and processes
• Knowledge of casework management systems
