Job Details

The Rt Hon Richard Holden MP, Member of Parliament for Basildon and Billericay, is seeking a Constituency Support Officer focused on organising his constituency office and local communications.

The constituency office is public facing. The successful applicant will be both highly organised and a 'people person' who thrives on interpersonal interaction.

The role is focused on but not limited to:
• Planning constituency engagements by working up invitations as well as proactively seeking MP outreach opportunities in the constituency.
• Constituency diary management.
• Monitoring local media coverage and social media pages, such as Facebook groups.
• Drafting social media posts and press releases relating to constituency and local activities.
• Maintaining a regular newsletter and updating the website.
• Assisting caseworkers with large numbers of local queries from members of the public by phone, email, or face-to-face with professionalism and empathy.
• Drafting written responses to constituents.
• Assisting with surgeries and other meetings.
• Producing local constituency fairs (jobs, apprenticeships, Over 50s, etc.)
• Building and maintaining good working relationships with local stakeholders, including local media organisations.
• Undertaking other ad hoc projects and general administrative duties, as necessary.
• Handling sensitive personal data responsibly.
• Retaining information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.
• There will be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours, such as some weekend working, as well as drive around the constituency.

• Empathy, relatability, and excellent telephone manner.
• Sound judgement in a hard-working environment.
• Highly organised, able to prioritise and manage a busy and diverse workload.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
• Self-motivation and confidence in dealing with senior figures.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.
• Full driving licence and access to vehicle.

Travel to Westminster may be required on occasion, fully reimbursed. Mileage will also be reimbursed when travelling around the constituency for work purposes.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
