The Conservative Environment Network (CEN) is the home for conservatives who support responsible environmental leadership. We are looking for a thoughtful and motivated senior policy manager to support the delivery of CEN’s growing policy outputs.

New conservative policy ideas on climate and the environment are badly needed. CEN wants to show that environmental problems have conservative solutions and is developing credible policy ideas on topics ranging from electrification to nature restoration to climate adaptation.

The successful candidate will work across a wide range of policy areas relating to climate and the environment and will have the opportunity to shape policy positions. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate a strong track record of developing and analysing policy, with an enthusiasm for working on environmental issues.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver on CEN’s core policy output of policy options papers, manifestos, pamphlets, and plans across the suite of environmental policy areas
• Oversee and write parliamentary and councillor briefings on environmental policy issues
• Engage closely with relevant legislation, spotting opportunities for potential amendments
• Provide policy input to CEN’s campaigns and events
• Pitch and write op-eds and post on social media about CEN’s work and environmental issues
• Build a stakeholder network of relevant policy experts
• Represent CEN at external events and policy discussions, including deputising for the Head of Policy

Required:

• At least three years’ experience developing and analysing UK public policy, and at least five years’ professional experience overall
• Deep belief in CEN’s core mission and values and a desire to advance environmentalism on the UK right-of-centre
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce compelling and concise written output
• Ability to work independently to a high standard, grapple with complex policy solutions, and conduct compelling analysis
• Positive attitude and the ability to form successful working relationships both within CEN and with external stakeholders in Parliament, the Conservative Party, and the environmental movement
• Ability to develop new policy ideas and spot opportunities within the policy landscape
