Job Details

Taiwo Owatemi MP is seeking a full-time Caseworker to join her hardworking team based at her Coventry constituency office.

Applicants should have a strong command of written and verbal English, an excellent telephone manner, and a genuine passion for helping the residents of Coventry North West.

This role would suit someone with previous casework experience, although applications from individuals without direct casework experience will also be considered.

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the role will involve assisting at constituency surgeries, answering the office telephone, and attending community events across the constituency. The successful applicant may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports.
  • Assist at surgeries and other meetings, ensuring appropriate follow-up action is taken.
  • Attend constituency meetings as required.
  • Critically analyse casework trends and communicate findings clearly to the MP and other members of staff.
  • Handle a high volume of enquiries, alongside more complex casework, received by phone, email, social media and in person.
  • Draft correspondence on behalf of the MP.
  • Ensure all information is handled confidentially and in accordance with data protection legislation.
  • Manage cases promptly, sensitively, accurately and confidentially.
  • Gather relevant information to help resolve constituent enquiries.
  • Maintain accurate casework records, monitor progress and ensure actions are completed.
  • Retain records and information in line with the Data Protection Act.
  • There may be a requirement to travel occasionally and work outside normal office hours when necessary.

Essential

  • Organised, conscientious, empathetic and attentive to detail.
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied and demanding workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.


Desirable

  • Previous casework experience.
  • Understanding of the UK political system at both local and national level.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting Coventry and Coventry North West residents.
