About the Role
Lee Dillon MP is seeking a creative and proactive part-time Communications Officer to join his constituency office in Newbury.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the MP's communications across social media, local media, newsletters, the website, and other digital channels. The successful candidate will help communicate the MP's work locally and in Parliament, support constituency campaigns, and engage with residents, stakeholders, and community organisations across Newbury and West Berkshire.
The role will involve accompanying the MP on visits, meetings, and events to support communications activity and capture content. Some flexibility will be required, including occasional evening and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on social media, website, newsletter, and media activity.
- Create engaging written, graphic, photographic, and video content.
- Draft press releases, media statements, newsletters, and website articles.
- Manage media and social media enquiries.
- Monitor local issues, media coverage, and online engagement.
- Support constituency campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and policy priorities.
- Accompany the MP on visits, meetings, and community events.
- Work with constituency and Westminster colleagues to ensure consistent messaging.
- Assist with constituency casework and general office administration as required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience creating content for social media and digital channels.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Experience in communications, public affairs, journalism, marketing, or politics.
- Experience using Canva, Wix, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of social media scheduling and email marketing platforms.
- Experience working with local or regional media.
- Awareness of local and national political issues.
- Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.
