Job Title: Communications Officer

Working For: Marie Rimmer MP (St Helens South and Whiston)

Location: St Helens South & Whiston Constituency Office

Salary: £26,039 - £40,533 (dependant on experience and in line with IPSA pay scales)

Job Details

Key responsibilities

• Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports
• Attend and asssist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
• Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members
• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. 
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation
• Ensure each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurate in accordance with the MP
• Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
• Follow up on social media queries and comments
• Manage and monitor social media enquiries
• Manage the arrangement and support of constituency visits and engagements along with the Office Manager and the team.  
• Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party political matters)
• Produce press releases, liaise with media, meeting deadlines as appropriate.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

Essential criteria

• Experience in a communications, public relations or journalism role.
• Demonstrable experience managing social media channels in a professional context, including creating content, monitoring engagement and responding to enquiries.
• Experience producing digital content such as graphics or short videos.
• Experience producing written communications such as press releases, reports, briefings or newsletters
• Experience handling public enquiries via phone, email, social media or in person.
• Experience working with confidential or sensitive information in line with data protection requirements.
• Excellent administration and organisation skills and an eye for detail/design.
• Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications, particularly MS Office (Outlook/World/Excel/PowerPoint)
• Experience of Adobe InDesign & Photoshop
