Job Title: Junior Caseworker

Salary: £25,691 - £29,000

Job Details

Joe is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and forward-thinking individual to join his team. The role is pivotal to ensuring Joe is responsive, accessible and visible to constituents. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to deliver high-quality, timely and effective correspondence on personal casework and national issues. They will play an important role in ensuring constituents receive a responsive and well-informed service, while helping Joe to engage proactively with issues affecting the constituency.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the casework team with correspondence on sensitive issues including housing, immigration, crime and ASB
  • Ensuring timely and accurate responses to constituents
  • Regular media and parliamentary business monitoring and drafting proactive updates to constituents
  • Answering and responding to constituent calls
  • Draft written ministerial and official letters as required
  • Attend meetings and visits with Joe as needed
  • Arrange, attend and assist with surgery appointments as needed
  • Support the running of events when needed
  • Work with diary manager to ensure Joe is attending events and debates of interest to his constituents
  • Support comms officer and diary manager from time to time

Essential skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and IT skills
  • Ability to demonstrate strong political instincts
  • Highly organised, efficient with an eye for detail
  • Ability to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both proactively and reactively often at speed
  • Ability to work independently and to confidently use your own initiative, as well as work effectively as part of a team
  • A completer-finisher with the ability to juggle a wide range of complex tasks
  • Good with people and the ability to remain kind and polite with everyone

Desirable experience/knowledge

  • Experience of writing professionally - specifically in a political context
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly with parliamentary systems
  • Working in an MP's office or other similar busy office environment
  • Handling confidential/sensitive information in a professional environment
  • Producing briefings or notes for meetings
  • Knowledge of Joe's constituency and his constituents' priorities
  • An interest in politics and knowledge of the role of an MP
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party
