The Role:

The Senior Manager, Public Affairs leads DPD UK's engagement strategy across central government, local authorities, trade bodies, & industry stakeholders. Working with senior leaders, you will shape the regulatory and policy landscape supporting DPD's strategic ambitions: electric fleet transition, urban logistics innovation, labor compliance, and sustainable supply chain growth. As the primary advocate for DPD before policymakers, you ensure our commercial goals align with evolving public policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy & Advocacy Strategy: Develop and deliver DPD's UK public affairs strategy, monitoring legislative changes within transport, labour, net-zero, planning and positioning DPD as a thought leader in sustainable logistics.
  • Government & Parliamentary Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with MPs, government departments, local councils, regional transport authorities and devolved administrations.
  • Trade Association Representation: Represent DPD's interests within key trade groups, e.g. Logistics UK, CILT and Road Haulage Association.
  • Crisis & Reputation Support: Partner with the internal communications and PR
    teams to provide strategic political counsel. 
    ● Executive Briefing & Preparation: Prepare senior leaders for all public affairs  engagements. 
    ● Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Operations, Sustainability, and
    Legal teams to translate public policy into operational implications and business opportunities.

Requirements:

  • 5–7 years’ UK public affairs experience, gained in-house or through agency, Government relations or policy roles.
    • Strong working knowledge of UK political and legislative system.
    • Experience arranging and attending meetings with stakeholders. 
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • A self-confident, self-motivated individual with a flexible and practical approach to
    work with a track record of engaging effectively with policy-makers & other external stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with transport, logistics, e-commerce, labour/employment issues or
    adjacent policy areas
  • Experience engaging with trade associations and civil society organisations
