Job Details

The future of parliamentary democracy is one of the defining questions of our time. At the Hansard Society, we are making the case for a Parliament that can meet the challenges ahead. We need a Head of Operations to help us turn that ambition into action as we launch a campaign for a more effective Parliament.

You will take charge of the finances, people processes, governance and systems that underpin our work. Working closely with the Director and Board, you will make sound decisions, solve practical problems and build the capacity we need to grow. You will also help put our new training programmes on a strong operational footing as we expand our educational work and income.

This is a senior, hands-on role with considerable autonomy and the opportunity to shape how the Society works as it grows. You will enjoy making things happen, see opportunities as well as risks, think creatively about how to use limited resources and share our commitment to independent, non-partisan You will line manage our part-time Finance and Administration Assistant and work closely with the Director, Treasurer, Board and external advisers.

There is scope for rapid salary progression following a review after 12 months, based on success in establishing the role, achievement of agreed objectives and growth in the Society’s income base.

First interviews: online via Zoom - Tuesday 3 November and Friday 6 November 2026. 

Second interviews (if selected): in person Tuesday 10 November or Friday 13 November. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Start date: As soon as notice periods permit.
