Based in the NEU South West Regional Office (Exeter, EX2 7FW)
Permanent, Part-time (0.8 FTE)
The National Education Union is a powerful force for change in education, representing 500,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff, and leaders. As we undertake an extensive staffing review, this is an exciting time to join us on our journey to becoming a more agile, strategic, and powerfully coordinated trade union—ready to meet the challenges of the future and drive lasting change in education.
We are currently seeking to appoint a Regional Officer (Representation) who will focus on the provision of high quality representation to NEU members, supporting and empowering Branches and Reps, alongside regional and other colleagues, to have the knowledge, skills, experience and confidence to represent members individually and collectively; building union power.
In this role, you will undertake representation, individual and collective casework, using every possible opportunity to advise, coach and mentor local Officers and Reps in representation and the strategic management of individual and collective casework, supporting branches and activists to deliver the NEU representation strategy. You will work under the direction of the Senior Regional Officer Representation, develop, lead and deliver good casework and organising practice in the field, liaising closely with other regional staff, reps and local officers to plan and coordinate implementation of the NEU Casework Strategy.
Prospective applicants are advised there is a requirement to travel extensively (often at short notice) to meetings and activities, which can involve stays away from home. These will be local, regional, and sometimes national, and involve working evenings and weekends as necessary.
Your normal place of work will be the NEU office specified in this advert. The NEU operates ‘Blended Working Arrangements’ for office-based staff.
In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including 33 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a defined benefit pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.
Closing date is mid-day Friday 13th November 2026.
We reserve the right to close this advert early if we receive a high volume of applications.
