Job Details
Candidates should be happy to work in a very busy constituency office, based in Stoke-on-Trent, and to assist constituents with a wide range of problems. Previous experience of similar roles is helpful but candidates with a range of backgrounds should consider applying if they are confident of relevant skills.
Main Duties:
•Respond effectively to correspondence and telephone enquiries from constituents
•Provide advice and support to constituents on a range of issues including housing, immigration, health etc
•Attend advice surgeries and other meetings with the Member or on his behalf. This may occasionally require additional evenings or weekend work
•Liaise and build relationships with key stakeholders including Government agencies, the local city council, NHS clinical commissioning groups etc to resolve matters for constituents
•Undertake casework in a timely manner following office procedures
•Manage own caseload and progress of casework ensuring all cases are logged and updated on caseworker
•Ability to prioritise and ensure that all urgent cases are referred to Office Manager or MP
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines and legislation
•Keep adequate records within the office filing system
•Deal with cases sensitively and confidentially, adhering to Data Protection Act principles
•Monitor local news/developments
•Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce short reports
Skills required:
•Accurate typing and familiarity with IT and Microsoft Office (training will be provided on Caseworker software)
•An ability to deal with constituents from a range of backgrounds and communities in a helpful, sympathetic and sensitive manner
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Exceptional interpersonal skills and a friendly and approachable attitude with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels
•A discreet and professional manner with an understanding of Data Protection rules and confidentiality
•Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills
•Ability to multitask and prioritise work load to successfully manage a variety of projects
•Ability to work both as part of a team as well as independently
•You must be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party
•A driving licence would be helpful
