Environmental management and wider sustainable development issues are of crucial strategic and practical importance to the UK manufacturing sector. The Senior Climate & Environment Adviser will be responsible for providing information on all environmental and sustainable development issues of interest to EEF and in supporting the development and representation of the EEF’s policies in these areas to both national and European governments.

Principal Objectives

The principal objectives of the Climate & Environment Adviser will be to:

- Contribute to the representation and promotion of the interests of members on environmental matters to opinion-formers through consultative responses and direct contact, including participation in relevant committees and working groups where appropriate
- Maintain specialism in environmental and sustainable development matters by monitoring developments and understanding issues relevant to the UK manufacturing sector
- Provide environmental services to EEF regional markets and members as requested
- Provide advice and guidance on the requirements and implications of existing and potential environmental policy measures and on best practice, to regional offices and members through methods such as direct contact, briefing papers, updates, conferences and training initiatives

Specific Projects/Tasks

The principal tasks for the Senior Climate & Environment Adviser will be to:

- Develop EEF policy on a variety of technical climate and environmental issues
- Act as principal contact with government, regulator and industry
- Manage several EEF climate & Environment Policy committees

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Educated to at least degree level, or equivalent professional qualification, in an environmental or relevant associated subject (eg, sustainable development)
Demonstrate thorough understanding and experience of environmental and sustainable development issues relevant to the manufacturing sector (Waste & resource efficiency, REACH, Producer Responsibility Obligations, IPPC, GHG reporting, etc)
Excellent knowledge of UK/European legislative and parliamentary processes.
Demonstrate good influencing and lobbying skills
Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
