Job Details
We are advertising for a Policy and Parliamentary Officer and a Public Affairs Officer.
Public Affairs Officer:
We are looking for a highly motivated and results driven individual to join our team as a Public Affairs Officer. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to build support for the NAS and the interests of autistic people and their families in parliament. During the coronavirus pandemic, autistic people and their families have too often been left stranded. You will lead work to campaign on these issues in Parliament, including providing the secretariat for one of the biggest and most active All Party Parliamentary Groups. You will also join the National Autistic Society at an incredibly exciting time, ahead of the publication of the new national autism strategy.
The successful candidate will have experience in policy or parliamentary work, working at national government level. You will also have experience of working with a range of different high-level stakeholders, including parliamentarians. You will need to have communication skills and have knowledge of central and local government structures.
This is a 6-months fixed term contract.
Policy and Parliamentary Officer:
This is an exciting fixed term opportunity to join a successful Policy and Public Affairs team to work at an exciting time leading up to the publication of the Government’s new all-age autism strategy. You will lead policy work relating to education and children and young people, including overseeing new research into the experiences of autistic children of the SEND system.
You will work with the rest of the Policy and Public Affairs team, as well as the wider External Affairs Directorate and across the organisation to ensure the organisation is informed about the latest education policy developments.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a role engaging with stakeholders to develop policy positions and solutions. You will understand Government structures as well as how key bodies like councils work in England. Ideally, you will have had experience of education policy though this is not essential. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of grasping new policy areas and detail.
A strong ability to communicate accessibly and for different audiences is essential.
This is a 6-months fixed term contract.
