Job Details

Preet Kaur Gill, MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, is looking for a motivated team player with a strong attention to detail to join her constituency team alongside four experienced colleagues.

The role is offered on a full-time basis.

You will be working to develop relationships with local stakeholders.

You will provide Preet with details of local updates from around the constituency and build a database focused on areas of under engagement within the constituency.

You will be responsible for community casework, working on your own initiative to identify opportunities for surveys/campaigns.

You will work with the communications officer where relevant to support with media, social media content and reports for Preet.

Working outside normal hours and travel for work may occasionally be required.

Key responsibilities include:
• Dealing with high volume of queries from constituents
• Dealing with cases promptly, confidentially and accurately
• Gathering relevant information to resolve cases and lead campaigns/surveys on planning issues, anti-social behaviour, and community engagement.
• Logging cases; monitor progress and take identified actions
• Managing records in line with GDPR
• Assisting with surgeries/meetings
• Arranging constituency meetings and stakeholder events, providing opportunities for Preet.
• Liaising with, local residents groups, charities, police, housing associations, businesses, Council, Government depts and other organisations

Personal Specification - essential unless noted otherwise

• Excellent written (including of letters), communication and organisational skills
• Excellent time management, able to work under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines
• Able to manage and prioritise own workload.
• Experience of organising, or assisting in the organisation, of events
• Experience of research and a high standard of digital skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a small team
• Commitment to aims and values of the Labour Party
• Driving licence and use of a car (desirable)

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
