Job Details

The Rt Hon Conor Burns, MP for Bournemouth West, is looking to appoint an experienced full-time Senior Parliamentary Assistant/Office Manager, based at Westminster or in Bournemouth depending on the circumstances of the chosen candidate.

Leading a busy office, the successful applicant will be responsible for working with the diverse team to ensure a joined-up approach to all constituency work. Prior experience of working in a Parliamentary role is essential, as is the ability to anticipate problems and resolve them.

The key tasks are to work with the existing team to ensure an efficient, friendly and prompt service is offered to constituents, and to support Mr Burns in his Parliamentary and constituency duties.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Proactively supporting the team to enable colleagues to maximise their efficiency.
• Accurately and promptly managing the Inbox, moving across incoming constituents’ messages and actioning those within the scope of this role.
• Overseeing management of the diary in co-operation with the Bournemouth team, providing or facilitating clear and concise briefings for all meetings and visits.
• Undertaking local, regional or national research to support Mr Burns' work.
• Leading on policy casework.
• Providing administrative office support.
• Supervising work-experience students and/or interns to ensure their time at Westminster is rewarding and relevant.

Candidates should have the following skills, experience and qualities:

• Prior experience of working at the Palace of Westminster or in a Parliamentary constituency office with first-hand knowledge of how an MP’s office functions.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage, prioritise and delegate workload.
• A strong work ethic and a willingness to be flexible to the demands of a busy office.
• Good IT skills including knowledge of Word and Excel and the ability to work with social media platforms. Experience of IPSA Online and the Caseworker database an advantage
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including a good telephone manner
• Awareness of data protection legislation and good office practice.
• Team player; enthusiastic and reliable
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
