Job Details

The Rt Hon Greg Hands MP is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant/Caseworker to join his busy Westminster based team.

The successful candidate will be hard-working, pro-active, with strong communication, IT and inter-personal skills.

This role will include a mixture of duties covering key areas such as communications, research, and constituency casework. The role requires a can-do attitude and given the varying workload, the ability to manage various responsibilities independently.

Previous experience in a similar role working for a Member of Parliament is preferred.

The job will involve:

  • Providing information and advice to constituents, local interest groups and other stakeholders on a wide range of issues
  • Dealing with a variety of constituency casework by phone, email or letter
  • Liaising with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and others to assist constituents
  • Drafting responses to a wide range of policy correspondence from constituents
  • Logging cases and data entry
  • Ensuring all records and data are managed confidential and in line with current data protection legislation
  • Managing and progressing workload and cases independently
  • Carrying out research into a variety of local, national and international issues as required
  • Providing briefings and reports on complex cases and local issues for the Member
  • Assisting with the drafting of the weekly e-newsletter to constituents
  • Assisting with the management of the Member’s website
  • Drafting press releases and campaign updates
  • Attending meetings with and on behalf of the Member
  • General office support and administration

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Previous experience in working for a Member of Parliament
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work-ethic
  • Local knowledge of Chelsea and Fulham would be advantageous
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public
  • Strong organisational skills
  • The ability to manage and prioritise a varying workload
  • A positive attitude with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a busy team
  • Good political awareness and judgement
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Very good IT skills and ability and confidence to use casework management software
  • Interest in current affairs
  • Knowledge of one or more foreign languages is desirable
