Job Details
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join the team of Nigel Evans MP as a Parliamentary Assistant/Caseworker, on a fixed term contract of nine months. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with a senior Member of Parliament, serving the constituents of The Ribble Valley and contributing to the legislative process. Applicants should have a positive, enthusiastic attitude with the ability to work within a small team.
Previous experience working in an MP’s office is desired but not essential.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to Nigel Evans MP, including diary management, scheduling meetings, and handling correspondence.
- Assist in drafting briefs, press releases, and other public-facing communications on behalf of the MP.
- Liaising with constituents and local groups by phone, letter and email.
- Respond to constituents’ queries, concerns, and requests through effective casework management, providing timely and accurate information and advice.
- Liaise with government departments, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to resolve constituents’ issues and advocate for their interests.
- Attend meetings, events, and occasionally surgeries alongside the MP, representing Nigel Evans in a professional and courteous manner.
- Stay up-to-date with current political developments and policy changes.
Requirements:
- A strong interest in politics, public affairs, and the legislative process.
- Strong self-motivated work ethic.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using various software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in managing casework or providing administrative support in a political or public service environment is desirable but not essential.
- A high level of discretion and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and professionalism.
- Flexibility to potentially work irregular hours and occasionally travel to the constituency.
