Job Title: Senior Communications Officer

Job Details

Chris is looking for an experienced person in Communications to join his team full-time to manage and develop his external communications. The role will be hybrid, working from home and in the constituency office based in Pencoed.

The successful candidate will have proven experience and knowledge of parliament and the political landscape of Wales as well as the wider devolution settlement of the United Kingdom. They will need to be a strong team player, who can work both independently and collaboratively as part of committed team.

Responsibilities include:
• Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels
• Ensure online presence is meeting the demands of the constituents, the locality and the MP
• Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts
• Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party political matters)
• Respond professionally, sensitively, confidentially and with integrity to routine correspondence and enquiries by email, telephone, social media and face to face from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
• Responsible for the management and development of the external communication presence of the MP office
• Manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner

Essential skills:
• Well organised with a keen eye for detail
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Able to build and maintain relationships with key media and other stakeholders
• Previous experience in a similar role
• Strong political acumen
• Excellent time management, able to work under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines

There may be a need for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and to travel for work occasionally.
