Job Details

Michael Gove MP is looking for an experienced, motivated, and hardworking Parliamentary Assistant on a fixed-term contract for 9 months.
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Helping constituents with queries, such as benefit claims, access to healthcare, visa applications, housing problems and social services issues
• Dealing with daily casework queries from the public by telephone and in writing
• Managing progress of casework and dealing with third parties, such as Government departments and agencies, local councils, and the NHS
• Drafting and sending correspondence on a wide range of issues
• Uploading files to Caseworker management system
• Ensuring cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner
• Preparing briefs for constituency meetings
• Attending meetings and taking notes
• Responding to mass email campaigns
• Assisting with social media, writing articles, press releases and newsletters
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours on occasions
• Assisting Michael and members of staff with other parliamentary duties, as and when required

Required skills:

• A genuine interest in helping constituents
• Previous experience of working in Parliament and handling casework
• High standard of written communication
• Personable and able to easily communicate with people
• Well organised with an ability to effectively manage own workload and deliver to tight time scales
• Strong IT skills and in particular in Microsoft Outlook and Word
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure
• Positive attitude and ability to work flexibly and as part of a team
• Existing security clearance

Desirable skills:
• Previous use of the Caseworker case management software
• Previous use of Microsoft Teams and Zoom

Interviews are likely to take place in the week starting 23 October, with the successful applicant starting in November or December.
