Job Details

The Public Affairs Advisor supports the APM in building the voice of the project profession and
increasing infl uence across governments, parliaments, and wider stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have some experience of politics or public affairs and will know how to identify upcoming politi-cal opportunities for APM and its members, using sound political acumen to address issues and risks to ensure we max-imise the voice of the profession.
They will build and maintain relationships with strategic partners including politicians, political
advisors, policy makers, civil servants, and other external agencies to amplify our message and
increase visibility. The role holder will support the policy and research functions within our team, using both to infl uencepolitical stakeholders’ views of the profession, creating dissemination plans for research and helping to craft policy posi-tions and priorities. They will help ensure that when projects succeed, society benefi ts.
Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal is key to the success of this role.


Experience
Good track record of stakeholder management and building partnerships across the public, private and voluntarysectors.
Demonstrable experience of working in public policy, public affairs, public relations, or political work.
Political experience of working in a Parliament or government department.
Experience writing policy briefi ngs, consultation responses and/or thought leadership pieces.
Experience of working in a membership body environment.
Some experience or understanding of project management theory.
Skills
Effective infl uencing and networking skills with the ability to maintain and extend stakeholder and customer relation-ships and to analyse and provide advice on complex issues.
Outstanding communication skills, both in terms of written and oral work, with experience of communicating effec-tively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
Effective organisational skills including horizon scanning, pro-active infl uencing and planning for dissemination activi-ties and events.
Excellent time management and attention to detail
