Job Title: Senior London Organiser

Working For: The Equality Trust

Location: London

Salary: £30,995.20 part time (28 hours per week)

Length of Contract: permanent subject to funding

Job Details

The Equality Trust is currently looking for a part time (28 hours per week) Senior London Organiser on a permanent subject to funding contract. The salary is £30,995.20 per year ((£38,744 pro rated 0.8), with 7% employer pension contribution (1% employee contribution).

Applicants must be London based (or within commutable distance) and have the right to work in the UK.

Purpose of the role:

This Trust for London funded post is designed to develop and strengthen our
links with council officers and councillors in target London boroughs; alongside
continuing our organising, outreach and community engagement work in
London, with a focus on facilitating target London councils to voluntarily adopt
and successfully implement the Socio-Economic Duty (SED).

The SED is a key piece of legislation - Section 1 of the Equality Act 2010,
uncommenced in England - that requires public bodies to pay due regard to
socio-economic disadvantage when making strategic decisions. With partners,
we have worked across England on voluntary adoption of the SED with an
emphasis on the key role of communities in providing both insight and
accountability. This enables residents to have greater say in decision making and
to hold their local authority to account.

As part of our strategic objective of strengthening and supporting organisations
and individuals to embed the narratives and practice needed to dismantle
structural inequalities, this role will seek to further empower diverse grassroots
groups, community organisations and residents in London. It will involve
working closely with community organisations, running training sessions,
developing leadership, and capacity building to improve local democracy. As well
as working strategically with council officials, councillors, other organisations
and businesses across target London boroughs focusing on the SED.

The Senior London Organiser will be responsible for uncovering and creating
opportunities to influence candidates in the run up to the London GLA and
Mayoral elections to make sure that inequality reduction is on the agenda.
