About the role
One of the central parts of our support offer to councils is our work around digital transformation, supporting councils to meet the needs of their local communities through 12 strategic digitalisation outcomes. While councils like much of society, have embraced technology and digitalised how we live and work, this is a rapidly evolving landscape, and we are very much at the beginning of this journey. The Government has the ambition to make the UK a science and technology superpower. As leaders of place and with local government annual spend totalling over £70 billion, digitalised councils are best placed to unlock and lead digital transformation in their local communities and meet resident expectations through digitalised services.
This role is pivotal in ensuring that the realities of local government are understood by Government in the implementation of their vision to be a technology superpower, and that councils are supported to deliver these ambitions locally.
This role sits within a small team that will work with stakeholders across the LGA, councils and Government to help make this happen. The work is varied, with the successful applicant working across a wide range of digitalisation policy issues, including AI, digital identities, and a secure supply chain.
From commissioning research and supporting the development of policy, to running events and working directly with councils and civil servants, this is a role where very few days are the same and where collaboration is key to achieving a successful outcome.
The successful candidate will join an organisation with a strong track record of leading the national debate and supporting councils, and that works confidently with partners across government to strengthen policy development and advocate for the best outcomes for councils and the communities they serve.
