Job Details

Sarah Atherton, Member of Parliament for Wrexham is looking to recruit full-time member of staff to join her team.

The ideal candidate will be bright, highly organised, enthusiastic and empathetic. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills and a keen interest in politics.

Key responsibilities:

  • Respond to enquiries by telephone, e mail and social media, passing on queries to other team members/MP as appropriate
  • Undertake and deal with casework - including logging, drafting responses and upholding data protection and confidentiality
  • Monitor & update all social media platforms, including website, monitor media coverage and prepare written communications
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence
  • Database management using office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) to handle administrative cases
  • Diary Management
  • Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
  • Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public, through a variety of methods, which may require public facing duties
  • Exposure to complex cases
  • Assist with compilation of briefing packs
  • Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence


Essential requirements for the successful candidate:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to show empathy and patience
  • Experience of working with members of the public
  • An ability to take the initiative and work proactively
  • To manage competing deadlines, to prioritise tasks and to work independently
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially in written communications
  • The ability to work in a sensitive and confidential manner at all times
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages
  • Sympathetic to the aims of the Conservative Party


Desired skils:

  • Welsh speaking
  • Local knowledge of Wrexham and North Wales
  • Understanding of Caseworker.mp system
  • Understanding of devolved and reserved powers

The travel to, and within, the constituency will be required, as well as occasional weekend or out of hours work.
