Job Details

Matt Vickers, Member of Parliament for Stockton South, currently has a Full-Time position available in either his Constituency or London Office for a digital savvy and politically aware Social Media Officer.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, highly organised, and able to manage a range of Social Media platforms.

Working for an MP is no ordinary role. You will need to be comfortable working on your own initiatives, be confident at resolving issues, and be easily adaptable to changing priorities. Furthermore, you will be required to work closely with colleagues, and therefore must be a team player.

This is an ideal role for someone looking to take their first steps into the world of political work.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:

• Producing online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc
• Following up on social media queries and comments
• Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
• Managing and monitoring social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level.
• Ensuring all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.
• Monitoring media coverage, liaising with media, preparing press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
• Publicising the Member’s parliamentary duties on FB and Twitter.
• Assisting with Constituent Casework and dealing with this in a sensitive and professional manner.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours.

Candidates should have the following skills and qualities:

• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload.
• Personable and able to work as part of a small team.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong research and IT skills
• Understanding and experience with various social media platforms and ability to put content together would be advantageous.
• Ability to use video/graphic creating software such as Photoshop & InDesign.
• A keen interest in politics and current affairs and a committed campaigner.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.
• Hold a Full Clean UK Drivers Licence.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
