Job Details

Team ADJ is looking for an excellent candidate to lead the team as a Senior Parliamentary Researcher. This is a full-time paid position and we are looking for a candidate who is based in London but the role will require ad hoc visits to Pontypridd.

The role line-manages a number of colleagues, and the successful candidate therefore must have experience of working for an MP in Parliament and be ambitious and excited to take on a senior role in a busy office. The role includes leading on Alex’s Shadow Ministerial brief as Labour’s Shadow Domestic Violence and Safeguarding Minister, including covering online safety.

This includes drafting speeches, quotes, op-eds, diary management, media monitoring and general admin.

Responsibilities will include:
- Line managing the team across both the London and Pontypridd offices.
- Full oversight of Parliamentary portfolio and constituency campaigns.
- Speech writing including for Parliamentary debates and external events.
- Acting as an important link between Alex and members of the team, providing support to ensure the smooth running of the offices.
- Filtering a large volume of invites and correspondence, exercising sound political judgement.
- Leading on the delivery of local and national projects.
- Providing other operational support for Alex and key members of the team as required.
- Leading on comms for the team including social media and local/national press pieces.

Knowledge and experience:
Essential:
- Experience of working in an MP’s office
- A pro-active attitude and keenness to work as a team player to add value from day one.
- Proven oral and written skills and outstanding attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Parliament and the tools available at an MPs disposal to make change.
- The ability to work often under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and work well as part of a wider team, demonstrating a positive and flexible attitude.
- Leadership experience.
- Professional manner when interacting with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders, and members of the public.
- Sound political awareness and judgement.

Desirable:
- Understanding of Welsh politics and devolution

Interviews will be held in person, in Parliament, on Wednesday 7th February.
